Welcome to ABC Arawhata, we are a small, friendly, whānau orientated centre and we welcome children aged 2-5 years old. We are located on the beautiful Kapiti Coast and are close to public transport, the main shopping centre, parks and reserves and are a five-minute drive from the beach and river.
Cultural values, sustainability, healthy lifestyles and enquiring minds are the corner stones of our learning experiences.
We celebrate our culturally diverse blend of children, parents and whānau as we come together to learn with and alongside one another. We make it a priority to ensure all cultures are acknowledged, recognised and included in every aspect of our centre.
Your child will learn about the value of ‘reduce, reuse, recycle’ through everyday activities. We encourage you to use recyclable lunch containers and less plastic wrap to support this. Your child will also learn about the importance of insects in our environment and the value of water. We have set up a watering system that the children operate to water our vegetable garden whilst helping them to conserve water.
We have a lovely spacious, well-resourced outdoor area that provides your child the freedom to run, explore and develop confidence while building social skills and discovering the world around them. We have a beautiful vegetable garden where they can be involved in the complete process of gardening from, clearing, planting, and harvesting to preparing the vegetables for themselves and whānau to eat.
Your child will be encouraged to join in all aspects of our centre programme where we offer a variety of activities such as projects, music, literacy, maths, science and creative arts just to name a few. There is plenty of uninterrupted time for them to discover, explore and research their individual interests and ideas and to refine their working theories about the world around them.
Be School Ready
We are known in our community to be warm and welcoming and for preparing our children well for school. We offer a Be School Ready initiative where we build relationships with our local schools and the wider community. This provides the opportunity for your child to develop a passion for learning, confidence and social skills which supports their transition to school, making this a positive, smooth, enjoyable experience for you all.
Please give us a call or pop in and have a cuppa whilst your child explores. You can meet our friendly team and see our centre in true action.
We are excited to offer our families access to Storypark e-portfolios. They are a great way to keep up to date with what your child is doing while at the centre. You can log in to the secure platform wherever you are in the world to see what’s been happening in their day, check out photos of them and comment on their activities. We are proud to hold Sun Smart certification from the NZ Cancer Society.
