ABC Epsom has a brand-new playground! Our centre is a beautiful childcare centre in central east Auckland. Located near Newmarket, Epsom and Greenlane shopping centres, moments from the Southern/Northern Motorway. We have lovely child-friendly building boasting well-resourced rooms, with a home away from home feel. We welcome all families to visit our centre when you are driving along Great South Road or are in the neighbourhood!
At ABC Epsom, we believe children learn best when children have a choice and are empowered to make decisions for themselves. With adults and teachers who support these processes in an environment with well thought our resources to support and extend learning. We believe it takes a village to raise a child, so we aim to work cooperatively with families, community organisations and professional groups to achieve the best learning outcomes for all tamariki.
We have a well-established team of teachers, many having worked in the centre for over 10 years who are dedicated, experienced and knowledgeable, offering quality education and care for our children. Our qualified kaiako are committed, hard-working and enthusiastic who provide supportive, encouraging and nurturing educational experiences and care for tamariki from 3 months to school age.
Our curriculum is very strong in language focused activities. We offer experiences in Mandarin and Hindi as well as English, Te Reo and Sign Language. We believe learning about cultural diversity from a global, national and community perspective is important for the development of every child’s mind, body and spirit. We employ a wide range of teaching approaches and strategies when working with our children and use the New Zealand Early Childhood Curriculum, Te Whāriki, as our foundation to provide engaging and stimulating programmes that are innovative and exciting that support and extend learning for all children in our centre.
Tui Room (3 months to two)
In the Tui room we have a mixture of young infants, crawling babies and moving toddlers. We value developing warm, responsive relationships with our tamariki and our practice in this room is responsive and respectful of children’s autonomy, competence and capabilities. We provide a calm and nurturing environment where infant’s routines are unrushed, relaxed and child focused; babies are stimulated and supported and toddlers are challenged and extended. The learning and development opportunities provided are personalised to their specific individual needs. To support their learning and development we provide exciting and challenging environment where they can work on their intellectual, social, emotional and physical competence throughout the day.
Kiwi Room (two years – school)
In the Kiwi room, we have an environment that offers a variety of open ended and natural resources that engage children in critical thinking, problem solving and working by themselves and cooperatively with other children. We value and promote a learning programme that enables children the space and the opportunity to explore, experiment and take risks when engaged in play. Teachers work individually with each child and with groups of children, offering them the support, guidance and inquiry; questioning their own learning and offering possibly pathways of learning of their choosing. The teachers provide provocations to challenge their reflectiveness to previous learning and critical inquiry to current and future learning based on the individual children’s interests, strengths and dispositions.
ABC Epsom is open from 7.30am – 5.30pm, Monday to Friday. We offer sessions, short days and full day options both part time or full time over the week. We encourage you to come and have a look at our centre to see how we can help your child on the pathway to become a capable, confident and responsive learner reaching their potential in everything they do.
At ABC Epsom, we believe in having a positive attitude towards food and nutrition and we support our children to develop skills in healthy eating. We provide a nutritious morning, afternoon tea and lunch that is prepared by our cook in our on-site kitchen. She caters for a range of different dietary requirements children might have each day. If you would like more information on our tasty, delicious meals, please let us know. Our menus offer variety of choices and cultural food options for children which have been put together in consultation with parents and whanau.
Together with BestStart’s team of Professional Service Managers who support our team, we have put together a curriculum that offers each child a balanced programme providing opportunity for them to follow their individual interests, build on their strengths, get support for challenges and develop their social and team work skills as well as confidence and self-esteem.
Our unique Be School Ready initiative has been developed to ensure that children leave the centre as confident, capable learners, having had many different experiences to prepare for the next step in their education journey.

“The videos and pictures posted on Storypark are perfect for a working mother to see her children grown and learn.”
“I want you to know how deeply we appreciate your hard work with my child and other children in the centre. The wonderful and caring teachers are always filled with positive energy and have helped my boy socialize and gain new friends. Every day he discovers and learns something new, and improves his skills because of the support, patience and understanding he gets from ABC Epsom. My husband and I are both full time working parents and it fills our heart with joy to see that our child is in safe hands and spends time in a healthy and safe environment while we are at work.”
“A big thank you for the great care and support that you have provided for Mia. As a parent I am very happy with the care and education that you provided. It was a great pleasure to work with you. I was very pleased with the centre’s communication to us as a parents. Thank you for always preparing delicious meals and to all the preschool and babies teachers for the great care, love and education that they provided. Mia was very happy and she had a great time at ABC Epsom.”
“I have found ABC Epsom to be so nurturing and stimulating for both my boys aged 2 and 4. They both started at around 10 months and the babies room and the teachers there are so caring and attentive to the children, with wonderful songs, stories and music sessions to engage the babies, as well as toys to provide stimulation. The bedtime area is really well set up for the babies with each having their own cot and bedding set.
The over two area is wonderful for play and learning and the staff are nurturing and caring while ensuring manners and responsibilities are learnt. Staff are bilingual and my boys often come home singing songs in Maori and Hindi with no effort at all. The children learn how to make lunches such as pizza and sushi and are encouraged to be independent where practical and safe. The food provided is top quality with lovely cooked meals and morning/afternoon teas. I would highly recommend ABC Epsom to any person wanting a daycare where their children can thrive.”
“Your warm welcome and superb guidance and patience in building bonds with children has reassured us that our daughter is in good hands. The first few days are often challenging but the teachers spared no effort in being patient and understanding, establishing a good bond for future development. We are certainly impressed and assured that our daughter will be nurtured well along with all the other children through the professionalism of the teachers and staff at ABC Epsom.”
“To all the wonderful teachers at ABC who supported both my girls in their journey from toddlers to big school girls. Special goodbyes to those who put up with me the longest as an outspoken mother. Well done! Thank you to all the ladies who took time to notice and pass on my girls’ individual milestones, challenges and joys.”
“Moving to the other side of the world is a big change and a challenging one. With not having a house and a sense of security, you have been the most comforting and reassuring thing we had.”
