ABC Napier Central
ABC Napier Central, part of the BestStart family, is situated right next to the Marewa Shopping Centre. We are very central to the Napier CBD, so very handy for families working in town. We also have a number of schools close by; Nelson Park School, Saint Patricks Catholic School, Onekawa School, Napier Intermediate and Marewa School. We are only a short distance from the Kennedy Park Rose Gardens and Marewa Park. These offer great opportunities for small walks with our children to play and explore. We have two separate buildings on the one site. Our Infant and Toddler centre caters for children from birth – 2 years and our Pre-school caters for children 2- 5 years of age.
At ABC Napier Central, we understand that choosing an Early Childhood centre is one of the most important things you will do for your child, and for many it is a daunting process. Taking the time for you and your child to get to know the centre and the teachers will help with your decision and transition. Transitioning into a centre takes time for both parents and children. Before starting at ABC, we encourage you and your child to come in and spend some time with us. Getting to know the teachers, our routines and the exciting programme we offer will allow you both to feel a sense of belonging within the centre. This also offers us the opportunity to get to know your child, your family and work together to find out what you want your child to gain from their early childhood education. Feel free to ask as many questions as you like as it is our priority to make you feel comfortable and a part of our learning environment.
We have policies and procedures in place that are designed to make our centre a fun but safe place for all children and their families. We love it when families contribute and we welcome your input to your child’s learning or centre programme in any way. Every child is unique, we embrace diversity and facilitate experiences that not only follow children’s interests but are exciting too. This makes the centre a fun place to be where the teachers believe in quality care and education and the children feel free to explore, making it their home away from home.
Our Infant and Toddler Centre (Tahi)
Our Infant and Toddler Centre is situated on Kennedy Road and is licensed for 16 children under two with high teacher-child ratios. We understand it is crucial when leaving your baby that you know they are well cared for during the day. You will be offered the chance to have a daily book which documents all the things you might need to know when you get your baby home, for eg. What bottles they had, how much sleep and of course how much they enjoyed their day! How do we care for your baby.
We have fantastic qualified teachers who have had many years of experience working with infants and toddlers. They have developed a programme which caters for your child’s individual milestones and development and are able to show you this through your child’s learning journal, filled with photos, stories and artwork.
We are also very lucky to have a very large outdoor environment with plenty of natural free play space, climbing equipment and sandpit for the children. Inside our converted Villa is an array of age appropriate resources which cater for children’s interests and also assist with developmental milestones. The indoors is designed to encourage small group learning. We believe this helps promote children’s abilities to work together, develop social skills, and also learn from one another.
Our nursery is warm and cosy with each child allocated their own specific cot so everything feels familiar and calm. A teacher stays with your child until they fall asleep. We welcome your guidance about your child’s routine so we can try and replicate this in centre.
Our Pre-school (Rua)
Our pre-school caters for children 2 – 5 years and is situated on the corner of Kennedy Road and Nuffield Ave. This centre is licensed for 29 children. We have a great team of qualified teachers who have had years of experience working together and alongside this age group. They are always on hand to offer advice and guidance about your child’s learning and development and are dedicated to making this centre the very best it can be.
Our high quality teaching programme incorporates Te Whāriki (Early Childhood Curriculum). It is designed to meet our children’s individual needs, development and help them get ready for school. Our teachers are here to support and inspire young minds. Our learning centre fosters an environment where creativity is encouraged through art, music and movement. We ready our children for school with fun experiences that incorporate numeracy, literacy, outdoor challenges, large and small group experiences and various other activities which involve social skills and children’s interests. We strive to offer your child the very best nurturing and learning environment we can.
We have an open door policy as we want you and your family to feel welcome. We like to work in partnership with families and encourage you to be involved in your child’s education. We often have special events throughout the year and encourage our families to participate as we know how proud your children are to have you with them. This also strengthens links between centre and home. We frequently communicate with you about your child’s time with us through their Special Achievement Journals, newsletters and daily discussions.
We honour the Treaty of Waitangi through our interactions with children and families and it is important to us to offer a bi cultural curriculum. In fact we welcome all ethnicities into our centre and believe we become better teachers through our connections with other cultures.
Parents say we do a great job caring for their children. Both the Infant and toddler Centre and the Preschool have amazing staff and our teachers really can meet your needs – you really do have to see it to believe it!
Ask about our Be School Ready initiative
We are excited to offer our families access to Storypark e-portfolios. They are a great way to keep up to date with what your child is doing while at the centre. You can log in to the secure platform wherever you are in the world to see what’s been happening in their day, check out photos of them and comment on their activities.
