Community Kindy Bluegum
Join us at our Open Days!
Tuesday 23 Jan – Friday 26 Jan 10.00am – 2.00pm
Karyn, Chelsea and Ricky, our teaching team, welcome you to Community Kindy Bluegum, located on the Kapiti Coast. Our small friendly team look forward to meeting you and your child and sharing our education programme for tamariki aged 2 years to 5 years. We invite you to visit our lovely childcare centre at anytime.
The local and global experiences of children, whanau and teachers enrich and strengthen our knowledge of our place, our world and our unique contribution within it.
A little centre doing big things!
Building Knowledge and skills to care for our natural environment
Tamariki and whanau work alongside teachers creating ‘hands on’ learning opportunities while tending to our pets; budgies Johnny and Joe, feeding our worm farm, and planting, harvesting and cooking the produce from our gardens. You will see us promoting healthy eating through lunch box choices and the sharing of our crops and produce with tamariki and whanau. We are passionate learners about sustainability. We enjoy recycling and reusing projects which includes construction with previously used wooden pallets, plastic materials as plant containers and more! Children have great fun enjoying our beach lifestyle and often go for walks to the sand dunes, where we discover, bugs, insects, birds and learn more about how they move, feed and where they live.
Experiencing our community
We enjoy regular trips into our community, meeting local people and learning more about our neighbourhood. This includes travelling by bus to the Kapiti Community Library and visiting the local village shops and cafes!. We like to venture out and explore our community as often as possible. Whanau and visitors are invited and welcomed at our centre and we enjoy learning alongside them in experiencing different aspects of their life and cultures, sharing food, music and learning more about each families heritage. We work closely with Plunket who regularly visit our centre in their community van and you are welcome to visit with your child for their well-being check. You can watch some of our Grandparents day event below.
Discovering our wider world
Community Kindy Bluegum offers a window to the wider world which reaches out to children to explore global experience through stories, music, dance and celebrations and these are always well attended and enjoyed by all.
Sharing your child’s learning through Storypark
We are delighted to offer our whanau access to Storypark, an online portfolio of your children’s learning journey. Storypark is a great way to keep up to date with your tamariki, their interests and learning experiences at the centre. You can log in and share these stories with your family in New Zealand and around the world! Family and friends can join you in adding comments to these Storypark additions which make these valuable learning stories a lifelong toanga.
Be School Ready
We build key relationships with our neighbouring schools, Raumati Beach School; Kenakena School and Paraparaumu Beach. We know this supports our tamariki to become familiar and confident in their transition to school as lifelong learners.

“As I picked up my child yesterday all the kids were sitting together and waiting patiently for their freshly baked muffins. What a beautiful sight as they all looked so happy. Thanks for being so awesome with our kids!!”
“You all are super amazing and can’t thank you all for everything you do for the kids and engaging with every parent in a warm and welcoming caring way…Thank you!”
“I love daycare days, the kids love going and when you walk in you always get a warm reception and a good laugh. All the kids are so relaxed and the teachers know whose mum you are and have loads of feedback.”
“My son loves coming everyday, he gets so excited he’s learning so much he comes home singing , telling us what he’s done that day and he has made lots of friends. I don’t ever want to take him away from that and the day he starts school will be a happy but sad day. Thanks for having my son at your centre.”
