Community Kindy St Leonards
Nature inspired learning
Community Kindy St Leonards offers a nature inspired curriculum where children from the age of 2 can actively explore the environment to inquire and set the direction of their own learning. We are centrally located in Tomoana Road and have opening hours of 7.30am – 4.30pm to fit with school pick up and drop offs. We have created a small, caring community of learners within our roll of 30 children.
Our tranquil natural front garden offers open exploration where children can foster their imaginations, challenge themselves and engage with nature, learning how to respect and care for our environment.
Children’s play is recognised as valued learning, where they are supported to develop strategies for initiating, maintaining and enjoying relationships with their peers, teachers and centre parents/whanau.
Our highly skilled and experienced teachers facilitate group learning experiences as well as following the individual learning pathways for children to meet the parent/whanau aspirations. Our team embraces the cultural diversity of our community and this is reflected within the many learning opportunities that are set up daily.
Be School Ready initiative
Preparing for school starts when your child begins with us. Being school ready is about your child being nurtured as a capable, confident and competent learner. This is something that’s supported throughout our daily rituals and routines and is further supported and extended upon with each birthday. When your child turns 4 we continue to support your child in their journey by working with them throughout the year, offering them the opportunity to build their skills and extend their learning. We do so through providing school visits where your child is offered the opportunity to experience a real working classroom with a small group of their friends and teachers. We’ll support your child to develop a love of literacy and numeracy through taking them out into our community to experience these in ways that are meaningful. When your child turns 5 and is ready to transition to school we celebrate their learning journey with a ‘Last Day Celebration’ where your child will engage in the ritual of wearing our graduation gown, receiving a framed graduation photo, and a certificate to pass onto their school teacher containing crucial information that will help their teacher gain a better understanding of your child’s stage of development.
Choosing St Leonards ensures your child will be in a safe, caring environment with teachers who are knowledgeable, committed and passionate about providing the best possible care in a stimulating teaching and learning environment. Your child will enjoy an environment where they develop meaningful relationships with others and the confidence to set and achieve their own goals.
Call us now to find out more about enrolling your child. We look forward to meeting with you to discuss how we can support and work in partnership with you, your child and your family/whanau at St Leonards Community Kindy.
