Early Years Redwood, where children’s unique learning pathways are designed by their families with their teachers

Early Years Redwood is a quality early learning childcare centre for babies through to preschool children. Located on Main Road, Tawa, the centre is easily accessible to and from the motorway and a 2 minute walk to the Redwood railway station.

Teachers cater to specific developmental ages and stages within 3 purposefully resourced houses, each with their own backyard for babies, toddlers and preschoolers to enjoy and explore. Teachers thoughtfully prepare both stimulating and quiet spaces that are appealing to your child and support a multitude of learning experiences, and regularly reviewed and enhanced to reflect your child’s current interests and learning needs.

Our centre vision

Parents and whanau are an important part of our centre. We encourage all parents to share their ideas and goals for their child’s development and provide us with the knowledge we need to ensure that the routines in the centre are respectful of children’s unique needs. We draw upon the expertise of whanau to share and design, with the teachers, the unique learning pathway that is important to them for their child.

Be School Ready

Your child will begin BestStart’s Be School Ready  initiative from their very first day at Early Years Redwood. Teaching styles support your child to become independent, resilient, resourceful and a creative problem solver with the ability to work either alone or collaboratively with their friends and teachers. Our village environment allows opportunities for your child to develop tuakana-teina relationships with children of other age groups, and support the learning and care of children who are younger than them.

Our strong relationships with Tawa primary schools gives your child the knowledge, skills and outlook needed to tackle new challenges. School visits provide opportunities for your child to begin school visits prior to them leaving us for school, improving their confidence in taking this next step. Teachers take small groups of preschool children regular visits to these local schools.

Here in the Infant Room, we ensure calm and patient care moments, making our environment a safe and secure place for our babies. Your baby or toddler is provided with a nurturing, fun, challenging and interesting learning environment designed to enrich their individual learning and development. Quality care and education moments happen as we work alongside your child, encouraging individual and social learning. With time and freedom, your baby will be able to choose where to explore and discover new interests whilst having fun and learning alongside others.

We understand the importance of communication between whanau and teachers, as it gives children the best opportunity to become confident learners. Maintaining an effective flow of communication ensures you have opportunities to contribute to your child’s learning and share priorities and goals for your child. We meet your child’s needs based on the information you provide, to ensure that routines are the same as those established at home. This encourages a smooth transition between home and the centre on a daily basis.

Our babies have two spacious bedrooms and we provide sheets and a quilt that only they use. We place a high priority on ensuring that the bedrooms are peaceful and feel like home.

Parent Feedback:

“Tina, you really made the transition into day care for Aria stress free and easy. I love how you always have a big smile and lots of cuddles for Aria, and that you always take time to chat with us about how she’s doing. All the babies who travel through Infants are lucky to have you care for them” – Sarah and Christian

“Thanks so much, Kate, for everything you have done since Xavier started at Early Years Redwood. It was from our first meeting with you that I knew Xavier would be in safe hands” – Jenna-Faith

The tamariki in our Toddler Room are aged from 2 to 3 and a half. Our routines are flexible and fit around your child’s needs, while giving him or her opportunities to begin evolving their routines as they get older and begin preparations for Pre-School and school.

We offer a range of experiences for your child, and fit our teaching to suit all developmental needs and whanau learning goals you or your child has. We also use positive guidance as a strategy for developing your child to begin exploring their resilience and understanding of emotions.

We have a big focus on building strong relationships between children and teachers, as we believe this is the fundamental key in the success of children’s education. Tuakana-teina relationships are celebrated and encouraged with all of our learners.

Parent Feedback:

“Thank you so much for looking after me, for hugging me and caring for me, for teaching me all new things, for helping me to explore and develop” – Ethan

“Rochelle, what a treat to have you looking after Aisling in Toddlers and for the leadership you’ve brought to the room. You are an incredible asset to the centre” – Denise

Pre School

In the Pre School room we believe that all of our children are competent and confident learners who are able to take on new skills and learning within their own interests. Our priority is for children to leave us prepared to learn in the school environment which includes confidence using language, good independence skill, confident using their social skills as well as having a curiosity that will enable them to love learning.

“Around here, we don’t look backwards for very long… We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things because we’re curious… and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.” Walt Disney.

We plan activities around your child’s interests and work alongside your child, exploring, communicating ideas, contributing to the activities and ensuring that your child feels as if this place is a place where they truly belong. Learning through play enables your child to develop a deeper curiosity about things and helps them to develop and keep their creativity. We ensure your child has their feet secured in their foundations but have the confidence to fly and be whoever they wish to be.

Parent Feedback:

“Thank you all for the love and support your have given to Ayla while in Pre-School. She has grown into a wise young lady and has been taught so many values that Damian and I will ever be grateful for” – Bel and Damian

“We would like to say thank you so much for all your support for Tiffany’s journey at Pre-School. We are so pleased to see her growth at Pre-School. You guys are so committed, passionate and always full of energy” – Ket and Terry
