At EduKids Halswell respectful, genuine, and positive relationships are at the heart of our philosophy. We recognise family and whanau are important to a child’s learning and development and we value culture, language and community.
Our learning spaces
We provide age-specific programmes for your child and they are cared for in three separate rooms:
Nursery 0 – 2
Preschool 2 – 3 ½
Prep-Room 3 ½ – 5
All rooms offer options for morning, afternoon, 6 hour or full day sessions. Our beautiful purpose built centre is well-resourced and learning is driven by children’s interests so they can become confident, independent, respectful and creative thinkers.
Our programmes are developed with the children, for the children. They are based on emergent interests and give children opportunities to explore their ideas, work together, develop relationships and be excited about learning! Our programme reflects a strong sense of community as we value the contributions of parents and whanau as part of our programme.
Each child has their own profile book as well as the opportunity to have access to Storypark e-portfolios. These profile books and the Storypark portfolios enables you to see photographs and read stories written on a regular basis which inform you around your child’s learning and daily happenings, allowing you to also contribute to this and share your child’s learning with family around the country or overseas.
In our nursery we have a strong focus on each individual child’s care and learning. We ensure all interactions are authentic and responsive where needs and wants are heard and met. Interactions are respectful, informing children about what is happening and letting them feel empowered in their environment and building their sense of contribution. Respect, independence, love, security and a sense of belonging happens.
Our preschool provides a fun, meaningful and child driven learning environment where fun and a sense of humour is essential. The preschool places an emphasis on promoting respect, communication and independence. Through using rich language, encouraging the use of both verbal and non-verbal skills to communicate and resolve conflicts with one another and skills to express themselves in a variety of different ways helps to provide the children with skills and strategies to build and maintain relationships with others.
In the prep-room we have a developed transition to school programme which supports both children and parents with the next stage of their child’s learning journey. Our environment is set to spark curiosity, encourage collaboration and strengthen communication. We focus on ensuring our children are respectful, confident, competent and responsible and who are creative thinkers that have a real love of learning. The children at our centre bring their own lunch boxes, which helps them to develop the self-care lunch box skills they will need when they start school. Nutritious morning and afternoon teas are provided each day. Clich here to find out more about BestStart’s unique Be School Ready initiative.
Respectful & reciprocal relationships with children, parents and whanau are the heart of our teaching. We work in close partnership with parents to ensure our teaching and learning reflects the aspirations parents and whanau have for their child.
Our environments are inspiring and supportive to ensure each child is able to grow in a holistic way; ensuring their physical, mental and emotional, social and spiritual well-being is nurtured.
‘Acknowledgement instead of praise’ is a positive teaching strategy we use to give children feedback on their individual strengths and qualities. We celebrate each child’s successes and efforts by giving them specific feedback which uplifts their mana and supports a healthy self-esteem.
Our routines and daily interactions ensure each child is nurtured and respected through each stage of their learning and development. There is also a strong focus on nurturing children and their whanau at their own pace during their transition into the centre, between rooms, and prior to their transition to school.
Ako is embedded in our teaching practice by teachers and children learning alongside each other; kaiako empower children to make discoveries through active exploration & creativity. Through play, children are encouraged to be curious and inquisitive learners as they investigate their world. As a team we embrace professional development opportunities to ensure our teaching practice is kept up date.
We value the bi-cultural heritage of Aotearoa through our inclusive programmes, reo (language), routines, and environments and kaiako ensure that all children have equitable opportunities to participate, make valuable contributions and learn. We also work in partnership with whanau to celebrate the diverse languages, cultures, and values of each child that is a part of our centre.

Our centre stories
“Thank you for all the care, love and attention you give my girls. You are an amazing bunch of people, I continually feel amazed by your patience and enthusiasm.”
“We appreciate all the time and effort that was put into Ryan over the last four years, especially during some of his ‘challenging’ times. He is more than ready for his next step in life heading off to school with again many thanks to you all.”
“Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for making preschool such a joyous and positive experience for our family. We simply cannot express how much we appreciate all the patience, creativity, and love you have given to our boys. They’ve both learnt so much from you all and both have a wonderful foundation with which they can build on. You have not only taught them things but have directed them to trust themselves in all that they do and to become all that they dream. Our jobs as parents has been made so much easier with all the compassion, laughs and tears we have shared together and we feel very privileged to have become part of your ‘preschool family’. So thank you once again ladies for absolutely everything and for being your amazing, fantastic, vibrant selves.”
