BestStart’s EduKids Remuera is a quality childcare centre situated on the corner of Remuera Road and St Marks Road, convenient to Newmarket train station and motorway access. We are proud of our excellent reputation in promoting stimulation and development for children from 3 months to 5 years.
Our centre is in a spacious character villa and has a home-away-from-home atmosphere where our teachers set up new adventures every day! Our guiding philosophy ensures children’s interests are followed and teachers plan learning experiences which relate to and extend those interests. The under 2’s area is designed to have easy supervision and quieter spaces for younger infants. The two different playgrounds are spacious and cater for various children’s needs – from learning to crawl on a safe mat, to climbing ladders, mastering balancing, doing tricks on the monkey bars and creating forts!
We are a well-established passionate team who provide children and parents with a loving, caring environment designed to enrich our children and families. Our teachers also speak many other languages which helps second language speakers feel more settled and secure in their environment.
Collaboration with parents
For the team at EduKids Remuera parental involvement entails seeing parents as active collaborators in their own children’s learning and development. Our approach of interacting with families is characterized by focusing on the importance of the relationship and establishing meaningful co-roles for all the partners in this relationship. We have an excellent track record of parent participation in our internal evaluations on inclusive practices, healthy eating, physical education and more. Here parents have shared their honest opinion on our practices and we listen and respond accordingly.
Learning opportunities in community
We believe that children, like adults, need a range of visual and sensory experiences to inspire and stimulate their creative potential. Excursions are an integral part of the centre curriculum as they enable children to explore, extend and enrich their learning and their social skill development. Excursions complement and are an important aspect of the educational programmes offered at EduKids Remuera.
Our team is always eager to create opportunities to help expose children to new experiences by organising excursions on regular basis. Excursions, whether they be going out of the centre or by bringing a community experience to the centre, are moments we cherish and are very memorable for children and we see them revisit their experiences and learning frequently.
‘Jumping Jelly Beans’ and ‘Boogie Woogie Toes’ dance sessions
We have special dance sessions to extend our children. Dance is a great way for children to express themselves, be physically active, develop their confidence and coordination and have fun. Our dance sessions are a real creative outlet for our children which they relish. We have noticed that after dancing children are physically refreshed and more stimulated. Children are also developing important social and emotional skills all the while being active in a fun and exciting way.
Preparation for school
Our unique Be School Ready initiative has been developed to ensure that children leave the centre as confident, capable learners and prepared for the next step in their education journey. We promote equality and inclusion for children with special needs and work alongside their support group to help them become confident and capable learners.
Through our play-based approach to learning and development we advocate minimum restrictions in children’s play. Our children relish all the opportunities that exist in nature to learn, explore experiment and be themselves in a less restricted environment. We have started the new initiative ‘Funtastic Friday’, where we expose children to age appropriate risk factors in the natural world eg fire, barbecue, cutting fruits, real life tools, road safety to name a few.
Through these experiences our children are learning to seek challenges and take risks as they expand their world view, develop an understanding of themselves and others, and endeavour to gain competency in a range of skill sets.
As a centre we:
- Provide homemade nutritious meals, catering for special dietary needs;
- We celebrate various cultural events throughout the year which encourages our children to understand cultural diversity and respect the values and beliefs from other cultures.
- Teach children about sustainability through growing our own vegetables and flower garden.
- Develop a strong sense of community by having local walks and inviting community into the centre (eg representatives from local primary schools, emergency services, Librarian etc)
- As a center we promote healthy living by having weekly dance and exercise sessions, organised by our skilled teachers.

“As parents, we feel it’s easy to communicate with the teachers and they are willing to help you to take care of the children as you need. I like the community posts in Storypark, sometimes our whole family sits together to enjoy these photos. There are a lots of different activities everyday as well. Thanks EduKids Remuera for making my daughter so happy.”
“We were immediately impressed by the centre. It seemed very safe, warm, had plenty of outdoors space for the summer and the teachers and parents were very welcoming. The communication from the centre and the organisation was a level above what we have experienced with other daycare centres and there were plenty of events and social functions too.”
