The team at First Steps Puni Road in Pukekohe have created a safe, warm and inspiring childcare environment for children and their families. We aim to provide each child with the very best education and care. We value our  relationships with colleagues, children, parents/whanau and our wider community.

If you are looking for a quality infant, toddler or preschool education and care for your child, look no further than First Steps Puni Road.

Infants and Toddlers

At First Steps Infants and Toddlers, we provide a safe and nurturing place for the children in our care, a place where families feel welcome. Our team of experienced, caring teachers, are parents themselves and believe that children learn best when they feel a sense of security and belonging. We work closely with parents to follow children’s home routines and share information about their progress.

The first three years are vitally important to a child’s learning and development potential. Our team values a learning programme that arises from the children’s interests, and respects that tamariki can contribute to their own learning. We recognise that infants and toddlers are developing a sense of identity, and we encourage children’s confidence and competence by supporting their independence and self-help skills. Inclusiveness is central to our practice, and we value New Zealand’s bicultural heritage and multicultural society.

We have a warm and homely indoor environment, and a large, natural outdoor play space that provides many physical and sensory opportunities for children. Our older children have the opportunity to join our “Young Adventurers” group that go on excursions out into the community.

First Steps Puni Road Preschool provides an environment full of exciting opportunities that our preschoolers can utilise to build on their own interests with interactions and activities that extend and challenge.

We believe in developing strong partnerships with our whānau as we know that we can only do our best if we work together. We seek parent aspirations and are creative in the ways we include these in the children’s learning.

Our Be School Ready  initiative can be seen interwoven throughout all activities within our preschool room. Our experienced kaiako (teachers) believe all children have immense potential and are passionate in providing a caring environment that allows children to build on their independence, confidence and competence in order to prepare them for a life-long love of learning. We have a close relationship with our local schools and visit every term to support children and parents in the transition to school.

Our environment is set up to encourage group and solitary play. Indoors, we supply many activities and areas that support learning in a calm, comforting manner, while our spacious outdoor area provides lots of opportunity to release all of the children’s energy, providing for learning every step of the way.

What else you can expect from our childcare centre:

20 ECE and WINZ subsidies available

We are excited to offer our families access to Storypark e-portfolios. They are a great way to keep up to date with what you child is doing while at the centre. You can log in to the secure platform wherever you are in the world to see what’s been happening in their day, check out photos of them and comment on their activities. Click here for more information about this fantastic resource.

Family feedback about Storypark: “Hi, this is Peter’s aunt from Korea. Thanks for taking care of my nephew and for sharing pictures and notes on how he is doing. It means a lot to me and my parents and we are very relieved to see our little boy is with such warm-hearted teachers. Thank you for sharing precious moments of Peter’s life which we could have missed if it was not for you!”

We have a Healthy Heart Award!
