Guaranteed to create light bulb moments – as well as shrieks of delight – for you and your child.
BestStart Paraparaumu (formerly ABC Paraparaumu), childcare centre, is located between Paraparaumu Beach and Otaihanga on the Kapiti Coast. You can find us on the corner of Percival Rd and Mazengarb Rd. Our closest park is less than 5 minutes away and we are also very close to Waikanae Estuary Scientific Reserve. Our centre provides care and education for children from 6 months to school age.
Igniting children’s curiosity and discoveries through fun, community involvement and the natural world.
Every day life for your child at BestStart Paraparaumu will include anything from bug hunts to researching at the local library; visiting our friends at the local rest home and schools to gardening and climbing trees.
Our dedicated team of teachers take the job of providing a programme that ignites your child’s curiosity to explore and discover something new every day. Your child will be given opportunities to investigate and make discoveries. We capture these magic moments and upload them to your child’s personal StoryPark page.
Most of all, we have FUN in our learning journey at ABC Paraparaumu. Check out our Mud Kitchen.
We have 3 spacious rooms at BestStart Paraparaumu which all have something a little different for your child to experience as they grow into lifelong learners
When you visit our nursery you’ll feel warmth and homeliness where your child’s teachers are attuned to their individual rhythms and routines. Your teachers know how important relationships with you and your child are and support a quick settling period by working with you to provide the best possible care for your baby.

Once your child comes into the toddlers space they are ready to start making friends. Your child’s teachers support and nurture social and emotional development through group experiences. The programme gives your child the opportunity to express themselves through their developing language, creative arts and messy play. Your child will start to develop more independence and we celebrate this with you as we work with you and your child. Check out the gardening project we have been doing in Mahuri…
Our preschool space supports opportunities for your child to be involved in independent research with their friends. Your child’s teachers work closely with our local schools and provide a Be School Ready initiative to give your child the skills they need to continue their learning journey at school feeling confident and competent. We explore our local community at least three times a week whether it be our local Heritage Trail or visiting the library. Currently we are learning about the history of Te Ati Awa Park which sits directly opposite our centre. Occasionally we even get to take a break from our history lessons to have a go on the BMX track!

With your food basket and my food basket, everyone will have enough (When people work together anything can be achieved)
We would love for you to come and visit our centre and meet our dedicated team of teachers who love being part of ECE, and believe that in these first years they can help to instill a curiosity and love of learning as a foundation on which your child will build on through their school years.

We are excited to offer our families access to Storypark e-portfolios. They are a great way to keep up to date with what your child is doing while at the centre. You can log in to the secure platform wherever you are in the world to see what’s been happening in their day, check out photos of them and comment on their activities. - The staff are warm and engaging. They greet everyone with a cheerful smile and my grand daughter loves going there.
- They really get to know each individual child. They often tell me things I never noticed about my grand daughter.
- I particularly like that my grand daughter is encouraged to explore her boundaries.
- I love that she will often come home with a set of wet clothes because she has gotten up close and personal with the water table.
- The bottom line is that my grand daughter loves going to the BestStart and immediately starts playing when she arrives.
- They staff always seem to bring the best out my little darling and that they allow her to be a ‘girly girl’ while still encouraging the Tom boy in her.”
“I came to visit ABC Paraparaumu with my two daughters. We arrived late morning and were welcomed by the Centre Manager, Rachel. She welcomed us with a bright smile and showed us through to the Mahuri classroom. There was so much for the children to do with both inside and outside available for learning and play. My daughters played outside and enjoyed the creative play. They did painting and play dough and even made a collage. We loved the artist in action in the entrance way too.”
We went inside to join the story time after a little play. Chelsea, the teacher was enthusiastic and engaging and my children, as well as all the other children joining in LOVED it. I was impressed with how well the young children sat and listened at story time.
ABC Paraparaumu is a fun and engaging place for learning!
“I can’t believe it’s her last day already. Thank you all for taking such good care of our precious girl, and for making kindy a place she looks forward to going to every day.”
“It has been a fabulous 8 years being part of the ABC family. You have all been so supportive and caring for both Ruby and Mackenzie and they have both loved their time at daycare. I will really miss coming in every morning and afternoon as it was a big part of my daily routine.”
“We feel so blessed and lucky to have had such great teachers taking care and loving both our children. Especially Luke…..he came to your care really early and we could not have asked for better teachers! He has blossomed under your care and guidance. Catie had once pointed out that he sang well before he spoke, and we have you guys to thank for that and more. You truly saw what he had in him and coaxed it out” – Rhea, Jan, Amber and Luke
“To everyone at ABC Paraparaumu, Thank you so much for being a wonderful bunch of people and teaching and preparing Grace for school. You are all so nurturing and we will miss you” -Kylie, Andy and Grace.
“Absolutely love our kindy. James is so happy and comfortable there. His speech has come on in leaps and bounds since he started. I would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone looking for childcare on the Kapiti Coast”.

“My children go to ABC Paraparaumu and it is amazing! I can honestly say the teachers and Catie do an amazing job- I want to thank them so much for making it easy to leave my children each day! I know that they are happy and have an awesome time everyday. The teachers in Pihinga go above and beyond for my two boys (1 and 2 years)”.
“Everyone is really friendly and go the extra mile to further my children’s education”.
