TopKids New Lynn is a purpose built centre which is located on Great North Road between New Lynn (Lynn Mall) and Kelston. We provide outstanding early childhood care and education for children in partnership with parents.

We provide a safe, dynamic and enriching learning environment for our tamariki. We are committed to providing educational experiences that reflect bi-cultural and multicultural practice. We value the importance of children’s play in developing meaningful learning for young children. The environment in our centre is happy, positive, caring and educational, which supports children to thrive and grow to become confident, competent lifelong learners. We practice an open door policy and we encourage parents to participate and be a part of the centre programme.

Our Philosophy

At TopKids New Lynn children, educators and whanau are respected and acknowledged under one roof where all the cultures come together.  Each child’s needs are catered for by providing a challenging and stimulating learning environment. We believe in the holistic development of our children, working in partnership with our families and communities to achieve the best learning outcomes for all our tamariki. Children are secure and happy in the centre and are confident and focused in their play.

Teaching team

We have a team of dedicated and experienced teachers offering quality education and care for our children. Our teachers are committed, hardworking, open to communication and provide a resourceful environment that is reflective of our early childhood curriculum.  We are very blessed to have a rich and diverse ethnicity of teachers from all over the world who enrich the centre and provide the best care for our diverse community. Apart from English there are many other languages spoken in the centre, including Mandarin, Cantonese, Hindi, Punjabi, Gujrati, Singhalese, Malayalam, and Tamil.  A bit of French. Gaelic, and Te Reo.

Curriculum

Our programmes are based on the New Zealand Early Childhood Curriculum Te Whariki which provides the foundation for us to develop an engaging, and stimulating learning environment to extend learning for all children in our centre. Teachers plan programmes in response to children’s interests. They encourage children’s involvement in collaborative group investigations and planning is supported by thoughtful assessment and evaluation. Regular entries in children’s portfolios shows individual records of learning and reflect the range of experiences available to children.

Environment

Our spacious and attractive environment enables children to explore and investigate. It reflects the centre’s philosophy and a commitment to the use of a wider range of resources. Teachers adapt the learning environment in response to children’s play and skilfully integrate learning about literacy, numeracy and science. Our wall displays depicts the learning and focuses on children’s involvement in centre activities and cultural events.

Tui Room

As you enter our Tui Room (3mths – 2 years), you will be greeted with smiles and laughter. Our children explore, imagine, learn, build and create. We support interaction with peers and adults, celebrate milestones, and introduce new ideas, culture, and senses to our tamariki. Children are given many opportunities through play to confidently grow, develop and blossom. Our bedroom is quiet and peaceful to encourage a restful sleep so your child is ready and able to continue their exploration of the world.

Kakapo Room

In Kakapo Room (2 year olds), we believe that children are confident, competent and resourceful learners who are capable of constructing their own knowledge of the world around them. Children are valued and respected as the unique individual that they are. As a toddler, your child will experience many opportunities to tap into their curious and creative sides. It is our aim to provide a loving, caring, nurturing homelike environment that promotes each child’s learning and development, self-esteem and individuality, whilst having a day with lots of fun with their friends!

Preschool (Kowhai & Pohutukawa rooms)

At Preschool we plan for individual child’s interests, dispositions and development.  We believe every child is unique and we ensure each child feels a sense of security and belonging within the centre, while developing and growing at their own pace and being challenged, encouraged and supported. The various curriculum areas are designed thoughtfully for children to have free movement, sensory experiences and develop social skills. Our aim is to foster children’s holistic development and give them a sense of belonging within a safe and secure environment.  Children are able to make their own choice regarding resources, to interact with the planned activities that staff provide throughout the day.  We have a special Be School Ready initiative to prepare children for school.

Storypark

We are excited to offer our families access to Storypark e-portfolios. They are a great way to keep up to date with what you child is doing while at the centre. You can log in to the secure platform wherever you are in the world to see what’s been happening in their day, check out photos of them and comment on their activities. TopKids New Lynn is open from 7.30am – 6pm , Monday to Friday. We also offer sessions from 8 to 12 for over 3’s and 8.30 to 12.30 for under 2’s children.  There is also an option for shorter days, 9.00 am to 3.30pm and full day options.
