2023 Matariki Celebration at BestStart Borman Road

This year, it was a great pleasure to see our whanau coming to BestStart Borman Road on Sunday morning and celebrate this auspiciously beautiful occasion of Matariki which is celebrating the Maori New Year. We were able to show our respect and love through Manaakitanga and whanaungatanga.

We were able to get to know more about our families and take that time to build our relationships while discussing our tamariki and their learning. The tamariki put on a performance for their whanau where they chose different songs to sing and dance. This shows the confidence to perform and recall the memories in front of the other parents and their own. This also shows that our vision "Confident learners for life" is always there for our tamariki to grow and adopt the love of learning. The tamariki, whanau, and kaiako had so much fun doing different activities with their children and seeing their confidence in different ways of play-based learning.

Matariki is all about celebrating the 9 stars which are also different Gods in Māori culture. Our tamariki learnt the names of those stars and were able to sing them to their whanau. It was also nice to see all different cultures coming together learning and respecting other cultures.
