Every year we celebrate Matariki by all coming together and sharing an evening full of kai and activities. Matariki marks the start of the Māori New Year and is signified by the Matariki cluster of stars reappearing in our night sky. It is a time to reflect on the past year, remember those who have passed, celebrate the present, and plan for the year ahead.

Our tamariki put on an amazing performance for all their whānau, I think it is safe to say this year was their best performance yet! We had fun engaging in a range of activities - we coloured in Matariki stars that helped us learn about each special star, we lit candles to remember those we have lost, we created our very own stars at the hot glue gun station, we planted new seeds for the coming season, we wrote down our wishes for the coming year to Hiwaiterangi, and we spent time together talking and sharing kai.

Although our whānau brought along kai to share, our amazing cook made pumpkin soup from our winter menu so whānau could taste what their tamariki often eat while with us. The soup got raving reviews and we have shared the recipe with our whānau on Storypark. We look forward to what this coming year will bring!
