Plant life - Caring for and understanding plants is a big step toward compassion and kindness! Gardening is a wonderful way for children to connect with nature, and nurture living things. It provides multiple learning opportunities when studying parts of seeds, flowers and plants. Young students get to see life sprout from almost nothing to the beautiful plant that grows with each passing day.

Talking about how all this plant had been inside the seed that they can touch, with the roots growing down and the stem with the leaves growing upwards. Presented with the different parts of the plant, listening as they are pointed out and named ...roots, seed, stem and leaves.

When they are all very clear to see, spending some time to study them. This is just one of the many ways we start with bringing peace into our community. Maria Montessori was a strong advocate for Peace, She firmly believed that the education of children was the key to future peace. International Peace day is observed on 21 September, around the world.

This is something that we firmly believe in at Montessori Flagstaff. We start this within our centre as we share concepts of social and emotional competence, caring for ourselves, caring for each other and caring for our environment. We are sure this message gets shared at home and extends beyond that into our communities too.
