At BestStart Borman everyone loves messy play whether it's teachers or children.

We love to go out and get messy and if the opportunity is there then we take messy play inside too. In our infant area, our teacher's inquiry is to provide children with the opportunity to experience a wide range of sensory experiences. In this play, the teachers have used the gloop (corn flour and water), sand, and other props such as animals, leaves, and sticks.

First of all the children experient different states of the gloop changing when in contact with the skin, and the body temperature, starts to melt and slimy. Then the children mix it with sand and leaves to see another effect.

This play gives an opportunity for children to explore different textures and materials and their properties. This play helps children to discover and develop different ways to be creative and expressive and learn new words such as slimy, hard soft runny, and colors. It gives them confidence in and control of their bodies, including active exploration with all the senses and the use of the tools, materials, and equipment to extend their skills.

The messy play provides children with satisfying experiences that could be soothing and can stimulate emotional well-being. Our toddlers are always looking for opportunities to be messy and will contribute well to the play by sharing space and taking turns.
