In March, we welcomed a kaiako from the newly established neighbouring primary school, Te Kura Rau Iti, to our centre. This visit provided a valuable opportunity to strengthen connections between our early learning community and the local school, supporting our tamariki as they prepare for their transition to primary education.

The visiting teacher, Joanne Hughson (Deputy Principal), spent time engaging with children, kaiako, and whānau, creating a warm and open environment for meaningful kōrero. Parents were able to learn more about school expectations, including daily routines, learning spaces, and ways to support their child’s readiness. This helped build confidence and reassurance, enabling whānau to feel more prepared for this important milestone.

The visit also reflected the value of whanaungatanga — fostering strong, respectful relationships within our community. By working together, we create continuity in learning, helping tamariki feel secure and supported. Meeting a primary school teacher in a familiar setting strengthened their sense of belonging and eased any uncertainty about starting school.

Aligned with Te Whāriki, collaboration between early learning services, schools, and whānau plays a key role in successful transitions. We value this connection and look forward to continuing to build strong partnerships for our tamariki.
