BestStart Rongotai is an early learning centre for 2 to 6 year olds in a cosy renovated house in the heart of Rongotai. Our team of experienced teachers delight and inspire children to reach their next stage and achieve their goals.

At BestStart Rongotai, relationships are at the core of what makes us great. We want everyone who comes through our doors to experience a warm, welcoming and peaceful environment where you quickly become part of our centre whanau.

We value kindness, resilience and a sense of belonging, which can be seen throughout the environment and the meaningful interactions happening between kaiako, tamariki and whanau.

At BestStart Rongotai, tamariki and kaiako love to have fun together, as they freely explore and engage in our beautiful learning environments, including our playroom, sunny library, cozy den, the art studio, carpentry area, dining room and an ever-changing playground.

We provide lots of learning opportunities that support the individual needs of each tamariki, working closely with whanau, so we can learn how to best support their unique, individual needs.

Our highly experienced, passionate teaching team provide the very best education and tamariki for tamariki aged 2 to 6 years old.

Respect - Our centre allows children to develop naturally, through free movement and play. We enable children to fully participate in all aspects of our rhythm from setting up to cleaning up so that our children learn how to care for themselves and our environment. Teachers follow children’s individual routines and rituals and children are encouraged to achieve developmental milestones at their own pace. Our centre provides a culturally diverse environment for every child to thrive and we celebrate cultural events throughout the year. Every child’s culture and heritage is acknowledged, accepted and celebrated.

Relationships - Relationships are a core value for us. Every child has one teacher who is their primary caregiver, being the first point of contact for both family and child and forming close and comfortable relationships. Friendships are a key part of our curriculum and teachers invite and extend children’s social skills with each other and their teachers through small group activities, group meals, and regular mat times.

Responsive Curriculum - We are implementing a Reggio Emilia style environment where our activities and teaching are planned around the children’s interests. Children will be welcomed into an inspiring place, with beautiful spaces for children to play and their curiosities to be explored. Our regular excursions to our local community, such as the library, Rita Angus Rest Home or the local shops, mean your child will have the opportunity to connect with the Rongotai/ Kilbirnie area. All of our children have the chance to explore out in the community, out and about in the real world.

It has been a great time well spent with all of you. Reaia has definitely enjoyed spending time with her friends and has nothing but good things to say when she is at home. I know she will definitely miss coming into kindy and will miss her best friend Ian just as much. Hadassah also has had many great memories with her sister Reaia at kindy and continues to share them with all who can hear.

I always felt safe leaving my daughter at the centre. She always had stories to tell me when she got home. I was very impressed that the children were included in prepping/cooking meals for their lunch, she loved doing this and would always tell me about what she made. I also love how her suggestions/opinions were listened to, this shows a great respect for the children’s thoughts and feelings.

Thank you all so much for the love and support you have given Harlem and I over the last 3 years. I know Harlem has really enjoyed his time there and if we weren’t moving so far away we would be keeping him here until he is ready for school. We will certainly visit when we can.

Our child started with Beststart Rongotai 3 weeks ago and we are overwhelmed by the care and support the teachers have shown our child. Our son has moderate to severe developmental delay due to a genetic syndrome. It has been amazing to see him adapt and be accepted into his new daycare. He is an active member of his peer group, and teachers enable him to participate in all activities. Unfortunately his previous daycare, where he had been for 3 years was unable to carry on his care, however with such wonderful teachers who can adapt to meet the needs of children with additional needs we feel we've made a grate choice.

Our son is thriving at BestStart Rongotai, we feel so lucky that his days are spent with such a dedicated, skilled and caring team. The children enjoy a constantly refreshed wide range of daily activities which are also culturally diverse and inclusive - every day he seems to learn a new skill or 3! The carers notice each child's interests and skills and encourage these. They have fun educational routines and familiar structure, breathing games for calming at the end of the day, and they understand the importance of building the children's emotional vocabulary. Couldn't recommend more.

We moved our daughter here at the start of the year after losing confidence in another commercial franchised operation. Needless to say we have never looked back. The leadership at BestStart is clear as is reflected in the spirit of the teachers who put a smile on the kids faces everyday. Activities are well planned, teachers are engaged and passionate and the care & communication with parents is exceptional. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend BestStart Rongotai.
