This was an exciting and educational day at our centre as we welcomed Officer Matthew Green from the New Zealand Police for a special visit — an experience our tamariki will remember for a long time. From the moment he arrived, children’s curiosity (te pākiki) was evident as they gathered eagerly to learn about his role and explore the equipment he brought along.

Tamariki had the opportunity to see radios, flashlights, and even go inside a police car, making it a rich moment of tūhura (exploration).

A key highlight of the visit was an interactive discussion about personal safety and the role of community helpers — ngā kaiāwhina o te hapori. Officer Green answered many thoughtful pātai (questions) with patience and warmth, helping children feel at ease. His friendly approach supported tamariki to understand that police officers are trusted helpers within their hapori (community).

Through this meaningful experience, children developed a deeper understanding of trust (te whakawhirinaki), safety, and caring for others — te manaaki i te iwi.

We extend our sincere thanks — ngā mihi nui — to Officer Matthew Green for his time and engagement. Experiences like this strengthen connections and empower our tamariki to grow safely, confidently, and happily — kia tupu haumaru, kia māia, kia hari.
