Niuean Language Week brought pride, learning, and cultural connection to our centre. Together, our tamariki, kaiako, and community explored Vagahau Niue and celebrated the traditions that strengthen identity, belonging, and unity across generations.

Theme: “Fakatapunu, Ofania, mo e Fakaaoga e Vagahau Niue!”
(Elevate, Cherish, and Use the Niue Language!)

This year, we proudly celebrated Niuean Language Week, a special time to honour and embrace the beautiful language and culture of Niue. The week was filled with learning, laughter, and a strong sense of belonging for everyone in our centre.

Our tamariki had a wonderful time exploring the Niuean language and traditions. They enjoyed songs, stories, and hands-on activities using cultural artefacts. These experiences supported learning about identity, belonging, and the importance of valuing different cultures — including their own. It was heart-warming to see their excitement and curiosity as they discovered something new each day.

For our kaiako, this celebration was a meaningful way to highlight the importance of language, culture, and identity. It reminded us of the value of inclusivity and the need to recognise and respect all traditions. Through celebrating Niuean culture, our teachers deepened their understanding of how language connects us and strengthens our sense of community.

Niuean Language Week also brought our community closer together. Seeing our children and kaiako celebrate Niuean culture filled everyone with pride and joy. Across Aotearoa and in Niue itself, people marked the occasion — especially as Niue celebrated 51 years of its Constitution. At our centre, we continue to elevate, cherish, and use Vagahau Niue, keeping the language and its spirit alive for future generations.
