Children with allergies or medical conditions can safely attend childcare when appropriate plans, procedures and communication are in place. Effective management involves understanding each child's individual health needs, reducing potential risks and ensuring staff know how to respond if support is required.

Every child's allergy or medical condition is different. Clear health information, documented care plans and regular communication between families and teachers help ensure children receive safe, consistent care throughout the day.

At BestStart, we work with families during enrolment to understand each child's health needs and develop individual allergy or medical management plans where required. Teachers are trained to recognise symptoms and respond appropriately, and any medication or emergency procedures are clearly documented and accessible. Ongoing communication with families helps ensure children remain safe, supported and included in daily activities.

Good to know

  • Providing as much information as possible during enrolment can help teachers better understand and support your child's individual health needs.
  • Allergy and medical management plans should be reviewed whenever there are changes to symptoms, medication or treatment requirements.
  • Children with allergies or medical conditions can still fully participate in learning and play when the right supports and plans are in place.
