We support tummy time, movement and exploration by providing safe opportunities for babies to practise new skills at their own pace. Movement plays an important role in early development, helping babies build strength, coordination, confidence and an understanding of the world around them.

As babies grow, they learn through movement and sensory exploration. Activities such as tummy time, reaching, rolling, crawling and exploring different spaces help develop physical skills while supporting cognitive, social and emotional development.

At BestStart, our teachers create safe, engaging environments that encourage babies to move, explore and discover. Spaces are carefully arranged to support each baby's stage of development, and teachers provide close supervision, encouragement and opportunities for active play throughout the day. This helps babies build confidence in their abilities while developing strength, coordination and independence.

Good to know

  • Tummy time helps babies develop the strength and coordination needed for later skills such as rolling, crawling, sitting and walking.
  • Babies learn a great deal through movement, so activities such as reaching, rolling and crawling support both physical development and early problem-solving skills.
  • Every baby develops movement skills at their own pace, and opportunities for practice are often more important than reaching milestones by a particular age.
