How do you settle babies who are upset?

Every baby settles differently. Our teachers respond with patience, comfort and consistency, helping babies feel safe, secure and supported as they adjust to childcare.

When a baby is upset, our teachers respond promptly by checking their individual needs, such as feeding, sleep, comfort or a nappy change. We then provide one-to-one reassurance through cuddles, soothing voices, familiar routines and calm, responsive care.

Settling is about more than comforting a baby in the moment - it's about building trusting relationships over time. As babies become familiar with their teachers and surroundings, they develop confidence and security. We work closely with families to understand what comforts your baby and tailor our approach to support a gentle, positive transition.

  • It’s normal for babies to cry more than usual while adjusting to a new environment.
  • Teachers will keep you updated on your baby’s settling progress and wellbeing.
  • Sharing your baby’s comfort routines and preferences can help support a smoother transition.
