How do you build strong bonds with babies in your care?

Strong bonds with babies are built through consistent, responsive interactions that help babies feel safe, understood and secure. When caregivers respond to a baby's cues and needs in a predictable and caring way, babies develop trust and a sense of belonging.

These relationships are built through everyday moments such as feeding, settling, comforting, playing and communicating. Over time, consistent interactions help teachers understand each baby's personality, preferences and routines, supporting emotional wellbeing and early development.

At BestStart, our teachers spend focused one-to-one time with babies and take time to learn their individual cues and routines. We also work closely with families to understand what matters most to each child, helping create continuity between home and childcare.

Good to know

  • Babies begin developing important attachment relationships during their first year, which help support emotional wellbeing and future learning.
  • Back-and-forth interactions such as talking, singing, smiling and responding to a baby’s cues help build brain connections that support development.
  • Strong relationships with trusted adults can help babies feel more confident exploring, learning and engaging with the world around them.
